WEB HOSTING Reseller Web Hosting

Reseller Hosting is when a ‘middle man’ sells hosting on somebody else’s server, usually for a small percentage of the profit. The exact way in which reseller hosting is done will vary from reseller to reseller but the underlying idea remains the same.

One good example of a person who would use Reseller Hosting is a person who creates and maintains small websites for individuals or companies. The initial creation of a website can be a time consuming process but once it is completed as long as it remains online the administrator of the site will only occasionally have to make minor modifications to the site. A developer will typically obtain an account from a web-hosting provider that permits a large number of domains to be hosted. Through a combination of development fees and administrative fees the developer then charges his customers more than he is currently spending on the hosting account.

Another way Reseller Hosting is done is that a company or individual pretends to be a hosting provider themselves when they are actually just charging their customers slightly more than the actual hosting provider would. This may seem at first to be an unscrupulous practice but in reality it can also mean that somebody else is basically serving as a liaison for customers who can’t deal directly with the web-hosting provider for some reason. If a person doesn’t speak the native language of the hosting provider or is incapable or unwilling to deal with technical support then finding a Reseller might be their best choice.

Resellers may also act as agents for one or more web-hosting companies. Instead of sorting through dozens of different hosting providers it might be more feasible to work with a Reseller so he or she can find a web hosting solution suitable for every situation.

The downside of working with a Reseller is that because the account is in somebody else’s name customers can sometimes find themselves unable to deal directly with the hosting provider. The inability to interact directly with the customer service and support staff of a hosting provider can be a disadvantage. Another disadvantage of working with a Reseller is that they will frequently be the person who registers your domain name. Maintaining your own domain name can be critically important to some people. If at any point your business relationship with a Reseller ends then you run the risk of your domain name belonging to somebody else.

If you are working with an individual or company involved in Reselling then your best bet would be to approach them with your domain name already established and registered in your name. The Resellers main concern should be finding hosting space for your site and not registering your domain name although many resellers will do that for you as well.

You should carefully consider all of your choices for hosting and decide if you want to have complete control over the account or just be concerned with creating and updating your website. Protecting your own interests should be you first priority anytime you host a site and with this in mind registering your own domain name and making sure you have an up to date back up of your site is important even if you didn’t create the site yourself.

Finally it is important to understand with this type of hosting that you will be paying a higher rate for the convenience of not having to concern yourself with some of the aspects of the hosting account. Resold hosting is a growing practice on the internet and some Resellers may even attempt to hide what they are doing while others will be completely up front about their business. Remember when dealing with the ‘middle-man’ in the hosting industry you should ask questions and make sure your interests are protected.
