WEB HOSTING WordPress Hosting

WordPress is an open-source program designed around the idea of allowing people to have clean and professional looking blogs on their website without needing to become heavily involved in coding or setting up the site. In essence, what WordPress does is provide you with a customizable template that you can then add your content to as frequently as you like.

Installing WordPress on your website is extremely simple and tutorials on how to set up and use WordPress are widely available. Many web-hosting providers will either install Wordpress for you but even if they will not you can in most instances install it yourself; it’s really very simple. The creators of WordPress offer it without cost to the public and while they do not directly support users you will find a large community of WordPress users ready and willing to answer your questions and even extend some limited levels of support.

WordPress has only two basic requirements: PHP support and access to a MySQL database. PHP and MySQL are very common and widely supported by virtually all web-hosting providers. You do not need to be a PHP programmer or an expert in MySQL to use WordPress but some basic knowledge of how they work can help. The only reason you even need to know that WordPress requires PHP and MySQL is because your web-hosting provider will have to support these technologies in order for the program to work.

What is a blog?

A blog is an ever increasingly used slang term for web log. A web log or ‘blog’ is typically a personal site owned and maintained by an individual that basically amounts to an online publicly viewable diary. A blog can be about a specific topic such as sports or politics, or it can cover a wide range of topics.

In the past if you wanted the opportunity to speak publicly about any subject or even just share some thoughts with the world at large your choices were limited. You could write a letter to a newspaper editor but the newspaper could simply choose not to publish it. You could create pamphlets or fliers and spread your message but the time and expense required for such an endeavor did not make such actions feasible to most people.

With the invention of the Internet it became possible for anyone with a computer and a connection to express their opinion in a way the entire world could see. Many blogs are small and personal but some have grown to the point that they have thousands of active readers. Some blogs have even grown to the point that they have influence over major political parties, large corporations, and religious groups.

Blogs are not just for people who will attract the attention of major news organizations and politicians. Most blogs are simply a method for people to express their thoughts to a few friends and family members. The power of blogs comes from the fact that anyone can express their opinion on anything and as time passes an ever increasingly large number of people do.
