3Essentials has long been known as an excellent host for DNN sites - with affordably priced, reliable DNN hosting, and free DNN installations for you. One recurring customer request we've received has been for us to handle performing DNN upgrades for our customers as DNN released updated versions. This year, based on that customer demand, we spent the summer doing DNN upgrades for customers who requested it in an effort to deepen our familiarity with the process and possible obstacles, and prepare ourselves to make this service available to our customers.
Upgrading DNN can be a very complex process. If you haven't kept your DNN version upgraded since you deployed it, you may have to apply a series of updates, and there are very specific upgrade paths you need to follow to avoid problems. While DNN is a powerful and great product, you can't simply jump from any version to the newest version. As noted in DNN's community support here ( http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Suggested_Upgrade_Path/Default.aspx), there is a recommended upgrade path which may require multiple version "hops", intermediate version upgrades you need to apply to get from the version on your site to the most current version available from DNN.
Making sure you have the proper backups before tackling this, sorting through the right upgrade path, and actually performing those multiple "hop" upgrades to your DNN installation can be a daunting task. Not to mention handling a failed upgrade - which may be a simple module or skin unload, or may require rolling back upgrades you just applied.
For those technically inclined and interested, they see it as a challenge. But for the rest of us who just want someone else to take care of it for you, 3Essentials has good news... we're now offering DNN Upgrade Services for our customers.
At your request, 3Essentials will assess and perform the necessary upgrades to bring your DNN version to the most current release, or to whichever version you request.

Some important notes on this service:
- If you're moving an older DNN installation that is not compatible with IIS7 (DNN 4.7.x and below) to our IIS7 based hosting, the price of our upgrade services include us temporarily placing your DNN installation to a test IIS6 environment in order to complete the upgrades, and then moving it back to your hosting space on our IIS7 based hosting platform.

Upgrades are not automatically performed. We don't believe we should upgrade your instance without your specific direction. Because DNN hosts community developed skins and modules and components, not all combinations of these components are compatible with all versions of DNN. In fact, some are specifically incompatible.

DNN is not a 3Essentials developed product, and as a result we cannot guarantee that we can successfully upgrade every DNN installation to any possible DNN upgraded version. Additionally, there may be incompatibilities with skins/modules/other DNN components that may interfere with the upgrade of your specific DNN installation to a requested version. However, 3Essentials makes a best effort to identify and resolve these conflicts as we come to them. Generally we can identify for you what is the conflicting component and offer you options for proceeding (i.e., switching to a compatible skin, or removing an incompatible module) that would allow the successful completion of your upgrade. Should we not be able to complete your upgrade, we will roll back your DNN installation to the most current version we could successfully upgrade to, and update you as to the version the DNN site was left at, and the problems we encountered with the failing update.
- If DNN releases an incremental update that includes SECURITY FIXES within 3 days of us having completed a previously purchased "DNN Upgrade Service" to the release version preceding the update with the security fix, we will perform that update at no charge. We will not perform this automatically or notify you of DNN updates, but you simply have to request our support team to apply that update, and inform them of your recent purchase of DNN Upgrade Services that meet this criteria.
To request this service, simply submit a support request stating the domain name with the DNN installation, what version you're at (or think you're at), and what version you're requesting us to upgrade you to. If you're requesting this on multiple domains, please provide that information for each domain. Our support team will then verify your version information, reply back with total price, and request your approval before proceeding. Generally these requests are completed within 24 hours from you approving the request.
