Shared Hosting Customers
-
Maximum mailbox or postoffice size
-
Max mailbox size: none specifically enforced, although a single mailbox cannot exceed the max allowed postoffice size and excessively large mailboxes may experience poor performance when accessed via WEBMAIL interface.
-
Max postoffice size: 3GB. A postoffice is ALL email acounts (mailboxes) for a specific domain.
-
Number of Emails sent/received
-
For shared hosting customers, 3Essentials currently does not enforce a fixed limit on the number of mail messages a customer can send or receive in a given period of time, however we do monitor for excessive mailing and reserve the right to determine what is excessive, and suspend mail services or hosting services if we deem mail usage excessive or outside of our Terms of Service. Our Terms of Service are available at www.3essentials.com/tos.asp and outline what is and is not acceptable use.
-
We consider distributions to over 1000 recipients to be considered "mass email" volume, and our SHARED HOSTING solutions are not designed to provide mass email services, and would recommend customers with these requirements to evaluate our Virtual and/or Dedicated server hosting solutions.
-
Maximum Message size
-
The maximum message size allowed is 13MB. Please note this includes the entire email: header, subject, body as well as the attachment. File attachments will actually be LARGER when attached to a message due to base64 encoding.
-
*All email ATTACHMENTS are encoded in base64 for inclusion as MIME (standard for sending content other than ascii text via email). The encoding process INCREASES the actual size of the data/content. So an 8.5MB attachment might actually represent 11.9MB of data introduced into the mail message, increasing the overall message size. The following formula roughly approximates the resulting output data size for a given input data size that's been bast64 encoded: output_size = ((input_size * 4) / 3) + (input_size / 96) + 6;
-
Maximum number of recipients
-
We do enforce a limit of 200 recipients per mail message.
-
If you have a large number of emails to send, or a single large email distribution to do regularly (like a monthly newsletter), you can:
-
configure them to send no more than 200 per hour, or...

these settings are up to the customer, as they have full/administrative control over the hosting solution they have built upon their server.
