The "Web Users" function allows you to create a seperate hosting area in your website for individual users. For instance, if your domain is mydomain.com, and you create a Web User for user named "Mary", Mary will be have her own web space under your domain accessible at:
www.mydomain.com/~Mary
This hosting space will be accessible to Mary via her own FTP user id and password, created when you create the Web User account for Mary.
To create a Web User:
log into your control panel
click on the domain
click on the Web Users icon
click on Add New Web User, and complete the web form for the new user.
To Upload the contents to the Web user's directory:
Once the Web User account has been created, the user of the new account must now login to use the account/upload the contents to the account. The Web User must ftp to the main domain first (i.e. ftp.mydomain.com - NOT ftp.mydomain.com/~webuser), and will then enter the name and password for the Web User account, that was created from the Plesk control panel. The ftp.mydomain.com/~webuser directory then becomes the home directory for the Web User. The Web User can ftp to and from that directory, but cannot explore the domain further i.e cannot access the httpdocs or the private folder which is outside the httpdocs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Under the PREFERENCES icon for Web Users is a feature called
*NOTE: the web user functionality may not be available on all servers, all plans, or all control panel versions.
