Wordpress Akismet Optimize Table issue

Article ID: 214

 Back to Search

There is a known issue with the Akismet plugin used with WordPress blogs - this plugin utilizes an "optimize table" feature which fails to complete as it waits for exclusive write access to database tables for the optimization.  This causes other connectiions from the site to your db to be queued up and then hit the "max user connections" limit, where MySQL will begin rejecting further connections under your database id - resulting in your site being offline.

Due to other inherent problems with this feature, 3Essentials REQUIRES that this Akismet plugin's "optimize table" functionality be DISABLED on any WP blog running on 3Essentials SHARED hosting due.  The Akismet plugin's "optimize table" functionality is not allowed on 3Essentials' shared hosting plans.

Customers with DEDICATED servers may run this plug-in function if they wish.

We refer you to makers of Wordpress and the Akismet plug-in for further support of this issue.
