Problem Description:

When backing up and linux server remotely using beremote and Backup Exec 12.5 as your main backup server running Windows you may receive the following error when running the backup job even though you were able to create the backup job without any errors.

Error             : e000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred.

Resolution:

This error can occur if the iptables firewall on the remote linux server is not allowing dynamic non-ephemeral ports open from/to the backup server.  One way to resolve this error (if the backup server is on the same local network as the remote linux server) is to allow all TCP traffic from the backup server.

Example iptables firewall rule:
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s xx.xx.xx.xx -p tcp -m tcp -j ACCEPT

Where xx.xx.xx.xx equals the IP Address of the backup server.
